What is the best HDTV in my price range?

So I'm ready for a new TV. It's main use will be for gaming (xbox 360). My current tv is a 27" standard definition so anything will be an upgrade. It needs to be at least 40" and 1080p. Should I go LCD, LED, or plasma? Should I go 60hz or 120hz? And what is the best HDTV between $400-$700.
