Your Best Home Theater Set Up

home theater set up
If you look around you can find all sorts of goodies for your home theater setup.

The best accessories to go with the latest home theater set up are usually going to offer an added aesthetic and/or acoustic enjoyment for the homeowners. They're not only functional, but they are also fun to combine with multi-decor designs to enhance home entertainment. With the availability of so many assorted electronic components for mimicking the movie theaters, it's possible to get your home theater set up to give you that movie theater feeling without ever having to leave your own home.

If you're purchasing a new home, you'll want to think about your entertainment area. The size and shape of this area are of huge importance depending on what kind of home theater set up you would like to put together and the environment you want to produce. If you are building a new home you can plan ahead and customize the whole thing from the ground up.

In today's markets, you can find almost anything you could ever want to add to your home theater setup to help you create the perfect look and feel according to your personal tastes. Surround sound systems are a perfect example. Today you can get receivers that have enough inputs for theater style surround sound no matter how you like it. There is 5.1 channels, 6.1 and 7.1 which are awesome depending on how much gear you want to mess with.  No matter what type of system that goes into the home, by all means try to have every accessory available to make it the perfect way to play and have fun. A home theater set up is a great choice to consider for a complete family entertainment.

The sights and sounds of being at a downtown movie theater or at a drive-in theater is the main reason most people go out instead of just renting a DVD and staying home - even though many do just that.  But for the others all of the extra accessories for the home theater system makes staying at home just as much fun as going out.  First, there is function to think about - a home theater set up may actually need to be upgraded with additional speakers or other electronics depending on your budget and what type of environment you want to create.  All of your electronics should be easy to find. There are so many different kinds of HDTVs, receivers,  speakers and all-in-one surround sound packages, subwoofers and all levels of connectivity available at your local electronics stores and on the internet. Also look in your local phone book or internet yellow pages for local shops that specialize in electronics even the high-end stuff.  By adding on new accessories, you can completely transform your entertainment area.

For example, add-on features such as DVR burning technologies that will allow you to burn a video of your favorite cable network show. Another fun thing to do with your home theater set up is to mess around with video editing software to make your own entertainment.

If there is consideration for a home theater set-up that is all encompassing, then look away from the electronics and into the wide range of comfortable chairs, home theater loungers with vibrating speakers, popcorn machines, movie theater decor, and sofas that you can purchase.  If your space is big enough you could think about other gadgets like pinball machines or a movie style popcorn machine. It's all available if you look in the right place.

Home theater chairs come in a wide range of shapes and sizes with different features, massaging recliners  are also available. There are plenty of options to look at and choose from with most of them right here on the web.

What do you think about this for a home theater set up?

This is what I have put together.
RECEIVER-Sony 5.1 500W Str-dg520
Center Speaker-Sony dual 5-1/4 sscn5000
Sub-12'' sony 200 watt saw3000
bookshelf-sony 2 way speaker (pair) ssb1000
Do I need another set of bookshelf to get full 5.1 surround sound. thanks for looking.

Sony makes some half decent receivers so that is not a bad way to start out.  However, Sony is NOT the first choice or even the second or third choice for speakers.

For surround sound you need a minimum of 5 speakers and a sub-woofer .  Front left, front center, front right, surround left, and surround right. It works best if all three front speakers are identical. Since you have 2 bookshelf speakers already I would suggest you get another set (matching) of bookshelves and use 3 matching speakers for your fronts and banish the "center" speaker to one of your surround positions and use the other bookshelf for your remaining surround position. This will give you the best sound with what you already have, speaking by my own experience. BTW surround speakers are properly placed at the sides of the room, not behind you.

You should know that Sony vastly overrates it's speakers in both frequency response and power. For example they rate that sub-woofer at 200w at 10%t.h.d.! That means your 200w sub is actually putting out maybe 50w of clean power if you're lucky. The frequency response is rated down to 20 Hz which is impossible for a 12" speaker and unlikely for even a store bought 15" sub. There are a few speakers that do have that kind of frequency response but they are into the thousands of dollars. There is simply no $200 sub that will come even close to 20Hz.

Since you already have 3/4 of the equipment you need you may as well get the other 2 speakers you need and set it up. But I would highly recommend you consider upgrading both the satellite speakers and the sub-woofer when you can, I think you'll enjoy your

that much more.
